In today’s world, theft is still a issue, there our a couple of thing’s homeowners can do to try to prevent this from happening.Planting shrubs around the system at a safe distance (you still need good airflow) is one way to hide your unit or even most A/C companies can install a cage w/ locks that goes around the system to protect and slow down theft from happening.Another high market item right now is R-22 Freon, the cost of the product continues to rise making it more vulnerable to steal and reuse,a quick and easy way to prevent this from happening is to have your local a/c company come out and install locking refrigerant caps on your system, this product is not  expensive and can save you a lot of money in the long run.

If your unit is leaking water, your drain line might be plugged. This could be due to a dirty evaporator coil.Your outside unit also has a coil,if this is not clean it could cause your system to run high pressures and could result in compressor failure …. Have your coils cleaned and make sure you have a routine maintenance done on your unit during these hot months of the summer.

Even though some air conditioner repairs need to be handled by a professional, qualified repairman, there are some simple maintenance repairs air conditioner owners can do themselves after some basic trouble shooting. One of the biggest problems is the air conditioner is not cooling the area. If it runs but does not cool, it most likely needs to be clean. Cleaning an air conditioner should be done on a warm day and all power to the unit needs to be shut down via a disconnect panel by the outdoor compressor. All debris and leaves should be removed from the outdoor condenser. Then remove the protective grilles and use a soft-bristled brush to clean out dirt from the fins.

If the air conditioner does not go on automatically when turned on, sometimes it is a question of the thermostat. Make sure it is set at “cool” and the temperature set on the thermostat is below the current ambient temperature. If this is set, check out the main electrical panel as well as any secondary circuit panels. Look for a blown fuse...
